Finding cheap fuel near you: quick answers
How do I find the cheapest petrol near me?
Tap ‘Use my location’ above and your browser asks permission to share where you are. We then list the forecourts within about 15 miles, sorted cheapest first, with each price shaded green when it beats the UK average and red when it's above. Nothing about your location is stored.
Can I search by postcode instead?
Yes. Type a full postcode or just the first part (the outcode, like LS10) into the box and we centre the search there. A full postcode lands on a forecourt at that postcode where one exists; an outcode uses the middle of the district, and a city-centre district with no forecourt of its own borrows its neighbours. Your browser remembers the last postcode you typed so you can come straight back to it.
Is it worth driving further for cheaper fuel?
Usually only for a few miles. Each station shows its saving against your nearest one on the fill size you pick, less the fuel burnt on the extra miles there and back at 40 mpg. Today, a station 3p a litre cheaper but 2 miles further away saves £1.20 on 40 litres, costs about £0.76 in extra driving, and leaves you £0.44 better off.
Are these prices live?
They come from the government's Fuel Finder open data, where forecourts must report any price change within 30 minutes. We update our copy from that data every day. The forecourt totem is always the final word.
Which stations do you show?
Every registered forecourt in the government's Fuel Finder open data, around 8,000 UK filling stations across all the major brands and independents. If a station is missing, it may not have reported a price for the grades we list.
